Sunday morning, when I went out to do chores, I discovered that my oldest mare had a three corner tear in her left hip skin. The only thing I can figure is she must have been scratching herself on the feeder bins and got caught on a nail that was sticking out. I used a squeeze dish soap bottle filled with clean warm water to clean it out as best as I could. Then I sprayed it with "Blue-Kote". I am hoping that with daily spraying, it will heal up.
Monday, I sprayed the tear with "Red-Kote" instead of the "Blue" as it is not drying. So far, everyday this week I have sprayed it and today, Sunday a week later, all seems to be healing well.
After chores, it was cleaning time once again. This time it was the scullery. Touching up paint, washing walls and ceiling and organizing under the sink.
At 3:30 PM we had an appointment to have our taxes done. Good news, we got a refund.
Tuesday came and we got a call to pick up a sick little girl at school. I did my Meals route and then did more work in the scullery.
Wednesday was the usual chores, Meals and Fiber group.
Thursday after a quick job of chores, we packed up and headed down to Hickory Corners for a visit with my Brother. He was making me two projects in his wood shop. One is a set of frames for my first Reserve Champion ribbons and the print out from the Goat magazine. The other is a table that I plan to put in the scullery and put my new mixer on it. He enjoys working in his shop and this gave him something to do.
I had planned on ice fishing as well, but the weather has been so warm that the ice is no longer safe.
We had a good visit and got home just in time to do chores and then crash in front of the TV.
Friday, was the final touches on the mudroom. It was also the last milking of Ida, in alittle over two months she will be kidding, so she get alittle time off before the big event.
Saturday, was a lazy day. Because it was St. Valentine's day we watched Dark Haired Beauty so her parents can go out to dinner and do some shopping.
Oldest Son and Son in Law with DHB on board arrived in the afternoon on snowmoblies. It was one last ride, but it was on four inches of brand new snow that fell overnight. They left her with us then.
Before going to dinner, they stopped by to drop off some clothes and slippers. As well as, a lovely bouquet of mixed flowers.
The evening was spent just relaxing and eating pizza. Mom and Dad arrived around 9:30 PM to a very sleepy little girl.
Today, the neighbors have so far made two trips here with truck and trailer to pick up hay from our barn. I have the dishes done and have nothing planned for the rest of the day, except we are waiting for our milk customers to come by and pick up another batch of frozen milk. This should be the last pick up until kidding time begins again. I have twenty five gallons of milk ready for them, hopefully that will be enough to get them through until we begin kidding at the end of April.
There are no big plans for next week, just the usual. There is one date of importance and that is Tuesday, February 17th, that is my youngest Granddaugter's first Birthday. I haven't heard of any special plans for that yet, we will just have to see.
The sun is shining and the snow is trying to melt, it isn't very warm out, but it is pretty.
The title refers to the fact that I wrote this blog on "note pad" while I was off line. This was my first time trying this and it seems to have worked properly, so I may do it more often. I could even do a day to day "note pad" entry and then at the end of the week, just copy paste it here...not a bad idea.
Onward and Upward.
