Monday March 9: Today was another Spring Cleaning day. We did our chores and then came in and began really giving the laundry room a serious cleaning. Moved the dryer, tossed things out, organized the recycling stuff, put up some beadboard behind the dryer and all the while doing laundry. Declared the room done at about 5:00 PM after about seven hours of work! Wow, it sure seems like a much bigger area! Tonight will be another no TV night as there is nothing on to watch. Husband is watching news right now and I will soon be going to get dinner made.
Tuesday, March 10: Just the usual chores this morning and then my last Tuesday Meals delivery. Mary will be back this weekend and will take back her route on Tuesdays. Husband and Isabeau came along on this trip. Then after we did some errands in town and had lunch. Back at home just a simple evening, all of our favorite shows are now in reruns, so we watched "David Copperfield" we had recorded on Sunday.
Wednesday, March 11: This morning I brought Ida in for breakfast, she will be getting her meals once again on the milking stand twice a day as that is how I decided to increase her feed slowly. She has about six weeks till kidding and is on an increaseing feed plane as the kid grows the most from now on. With chores done it was time to get my things together and head out for Meals and to Gather with the girls. I was surprized when I only had two meals to deliver instead of three. One of my clients must have had an appointment, so they were scratched off the sheet. Then my first client's daughter met me at the door saying they didn't want me to come in as they had the flu, so that was a quicker stop then normal. I got to my last stop just before noon, was she surpirzed, I usually don't get there until almost one! We had a nice half hour visit and then I left to go to my gathering. I was first one there! We had a good time, there were nine of us all together.
I had put a soup bone with veggies in the crock pot in the morning and when I got home the house smelled yummy! As I was digging the bone out to cool, my Daughter called and asked if we were going to be home. Her husband had somethings to do in St. Johns and she figured while he did that she could come, visit, and have dinner. We had homemade bread along with our soup bone dinner. When her hubby came to pick her up, he too had some of it.
The evening was quiet with some TV and I started to crochet a dishrag.
Thursday, March 12: Did not have much get up, so I spent too much time on the computer in the morning just checking email. Hate when I waste too much time on the 'puter! After that it was time for breakfast and then out to do chores. At least, the late morning and the rest of the day was constructive...I made four loaves of bread and while waiting for that to rise, I worked in my sewing/craft room. I even got my darling husband to help! There were two pairs of his jeans that needed shortening, so I measured, cut, and pinned the hem and then he learned how to sew them up on one of my machines. After that project was finished, I had him do some cutting up of old jeans so that they could be made into grocery bags. He has enough large pieces that when all done, we should end up with five bags. While he was doing that I worked on Birthday cards. I needed six for men, I made seven.
So far now I have made twenty six cards and I still need another seven for women. I figure that if cards cost about $3. in the store now, I have saved around $75! Of course, I did have to buy the supplies, but that was then, I didn't have to buy anything right now when money is a bit tighter. I made dinner of pork steak, rice and corn then did chores and after watched TV and ripped out the dishrag from last night, it wasn't coming out right. Then I started a crocheted sock pattern that I got on Wednesday. I got almost six inches of the foot done while watching TV.
Pretty good for a day when I didn't think I was going to get anything done.
Friday, March 13: We spent an hour and a quater in the big barn today watering all the critters. I dumped the nasty water out of the goats tank and then refilled with clean. We also did an extra good scrapeing job in the loafing shed. After that I had planned to work on the last seven cards, but as it turned out I only got one done. Husband did some more cutting of jeans and to be sure we were getting enough of each I started to sew together some of the strips to be sure that we didn't over cut one type more then another. Then when we were sure that we had enough I started to put one of the bags together. I got the two sides with handles done, but still have quite a bit more to do before it is complete.
While making dinner I prepared Sunflower Salad to take as my dish to pass tomorrow at Spring Goat Day @ MSU.
At chore time I brought in to the parlor the first of the yearling does to begin getting fed on the stand. Tomorrow morning is suppose to be her first time, but just for fun I did it now. She ate all she was given, even though she wasn't quite sure about being away from her usual buddies. I also trimmed her hooves which were in really bad shape.
The evening was spent watching TV and crocheting.
Saturday, March 14: Today I was in the barn by 7:00 AM, the yearling was brought in after the milker and Ida(who is the first doe due this spring). Chores were done by 7:30 AM and then it was a quick breakfast and get my stuff and off to Spring Goat Day @ MSU. Goat Day is a yearly goat conference I like to attend. There are sessions on all types of goat information, plus the Michigan Dairy Goat Society's yearly member meeting, as well as a wonderful potluck lunch. Always a good time and lots of information. New friends and old are there as well. This year I was looking forward to taking the training so that I could put my milkers on "Milk Test". This is a program where the production of the doe is track and tested, then awards are given for high production of the milk and its components (butterfat and protien). I am hoping to get my girls on "Test" this year.
During the day there is also a silent auction held with items donated by the members. I had made a "quillow" with three dairy goats embroidered on it, which I donated. The last bid on it was for $20! A good donation to a good organization.
The training was done by about quarter to four, after getting my bowl back and finishing up with everything else it was 4:00 PM and I was out the door. In the parking lot there was a group of people pushing a small red car trying to get it started. I went to my truck to check if I had any jumper cables, yup there they were. I loaded my things and drove over to where they had stopped to rest. They flagged me down and asked if I had any cables and could I give them a boost...no problem. She had left her lights on, so the battery needed help. Just the time it took to hook up, set and give a crank and all was well. Good deed done and on my way.
At home all was well. With a quite evening after chores and dinner. TV and more crocheting.
Onward and Upward.
