Monday, March 23: No big plans for day, but I did get the greenhouse in even better shape. Some pots moved out to chicken coop and some trashed. Two cupboards straightened out so now I can find things in them. Nothing planted as it was not a "Best Day" in the Farmer's Almanac.
Dinner was leftover Chicken and Dumplings, Potatoe Salad, and fresh Spinach from the greenhouse, yummy!
After dinner we watched a 1931 movie, "Wild Boys on the Road". It was a Depression era movie about life on the road with a group of young boys and girls. Hadn't planned on watching it, but Husband started it and I got caught up in it. It is odd how those old movies are so simple, and yet they really are quite interesting to watch. This one shed some light on what it was like during the Depression for the younger generation at the time. The kids in this were somewhere around 14 to 17 years old.
I did my chores and then when I came in another of my favorites was on..."Ididerod". I enjoy this reality show about the dog sled race in Alaska. This season it is covering the 2009 race.
After that, we watched the end of "The Men Who Made The Movies" again about old movies, this was about the directors. What we saw was about a man named Wellman, he was the director of the movie we had watched this evening. He also directed, "Beau Geste"," GI Joe"," Buffalo Bill"," Oxbow Incedent" and "Westward Women".
It was 11:30 PM and time for bed.
Tuesday, March 24: I was up and at the dishes by 7:30 AM. We had breakfast and now I am getting ready to go out and do my morning chores.
With chores done and the critters watered, I came in and made two loaves of bread and dusted and swept the front part of the house and made dinner of lamb chops and brown rice with butterscotch pudding for desert. Then we spent the evening infront of the TV.
Wednesday, March 25: Much the same as usual, chores, breakfast and then Meals. After Meals I went to the credit union to make a deposit and then to Jo's house for Fiber Gals. We had a good group of ten. We had a discussion about how we have grown and decided that we should not ask anyone else to join us. Some of the girls are concerned that we are getting so big that it isn't as close a group as they would like. Also, if all of us were to show up there won't be room for everyone at some of the homes! There was concern that members were not as willing to hostess because too much was expected in the line of refreshments. We are suppose to keep it simple, like just a savory, a sweet, and a drink, but some have been making more. I guess I feel like if someone wants to really do it up big that is there choice, someone else wants to go really simple then that is their choice. I hate to see us start making rules to follow...then we just lost some of our relaxed and friendly feeling.
I didn't get anything started in the slow cooker, so when I got home we just had spaghetti with meat sauce and bread along with some leftover Angel Food cake from Jo's for dinner. Because dinner was made as soon as I got home there was time left to watch some TV before chores. Then after I checked my email and did some equipment hunting on line and then went to bed.
Thursday, March 26: Up at six and bringing journal up to date. Breakfast and chores after too long on the computer. Then a very constructive day. First, I started some sourdough bread, it should be working good by late afternoon when I could make the loaves and then bake them. Second , with the morning milk I got some cottage cheese started. Third, we did some spring cleaning up stairs, getting our bedroom cleaned and rearranged. When the weather warms more and the heater runs alot less, then we will move back up stairs at night.
While on a short break, Husband went out to get the mail. He brought in a box that had our Strawberries we had ordered. That meant it was time to quit inside work and go outside and plant the Strawberries. The temps were cool, but the sun was shinning. It took us the rest of the afternoon to get that job done.
After cleaning up, I checked the sourdough, it wasn't rising yet. Then I cut the curds and let them rest while I started the dishes. Husband took over on the cheese and finished that. By the time the dishes were done, he had made a good and yummy batch of cottage cheese which I used in the Lasagna for dinner. While the Lasagna baked I got a chance to sit and watch some news.
We watched more news while we ate our dinner and we getting ready for one of favorite TV shows..."My Name is Earl", when a car came into the driveway and a man got out. We had watched this same car drive very slowly up and down our road yesterday from the time I got home until it was dark. He even came in our drive, but never got out or came to the door. Husband went out to see what he wanted. He was a salesman for one of those arial photographic companys. They had flown over back in August and had a picture of our place he wanted to sell us. We took our time looking the new picture over. When we first moved in, another company had sold us a picture. There were plenty of changes in eight year! I would really like to have another one now that the outside of the house is done, but this one just wasn't right. They had "highlighted" some of the features and had intensified the colors...the barn was Candy Apple Red for one thing! The price was alot cheaper then the first company, but the quality just wasn't the same. We will pass on this one. I am hoping that the first company will do a fly over in 2010 and then we will buy that one.
We caught the end of "Earl" and then I did my evening chores. I talked to Stepson on the phone after he called and then my next TV show was on..."Treasure Quest". After checking the local news and weather it was time for bed.
Friday, March 27: I can't beleive it...for the first time in monthes I slept all the way through the night until the alarm went off at 6:00 AM! I guess it must have been all the outside work. I hope I can continue, I hate the routine I seemed to have been in, that is waking up atleast once every night, some times every two hours I would wake. Didn't feel very rested sometimes.
We didn't have quite as constructive a day as yesterday, but still there was plenty done. Chores and breakfast and then I made loaves out of the sourdough that sat all night. Then we did somemore outside work. We made holes for the four fruit trees that are coming soon and we covered the new Strawberry plants with straw as the next few night are suppose to be freezing. Then we took down the swingset we have in the side yard. The grandkids aren't here often enough to really use it and it was taking up alot of space. We will give it to Stepson if they want it, if not then it will go on Freecyclers for someone unknown.
Two years ago at Christmas, Stepson gave us a 15' flag pole set. We have been trying to decide where to put it and thought we had it today, but then...when we tried to dig the hole we hit junk! Everywhere we dug on the spot we had chosen we hit junk! After about six holes we gave up the idea. Now we still have a pole and no where to put it.
After that I decided to clean what I call my Spring garden. It is on the east side of the house, outside the big window in the dinning room and it has tulips and daffodills and other spring time flowers as well as shade lovers. There is a big pine tree there and it nearly covers the entire garden. When there are leaves on the Mulberry tree it is truly a shady place. I have been working on a plan for the area for some time and was hoping to "finish" it, but time ran short, so I will have to work on it Saturday. It does look better now and the bulbs are coming up, there is even one crocus that is in blossom.
It was time to start dinner and tonight we were going to have Salmon patties. I have never made them before so I had to find a recipe. I found two both pretty much the same ingredients.
While I was getting ready, Daughter arrived. She was taking some away time from her husband and she stayed for dinner with us. We had a nice visit and then just before chore time she went home.
The UPS truck had arrived today with the neck tags for the goats that I had ordered earlier in the week, so when I was doing chores I started putting them on the goats. I had three in to feed. It was the first time for Gina at night and from the way she ate it was time...she cleaned up her dish! She is the second one due, around May 13.
After chores, we watched a 1932 Barbara Stanwick movie, "Purchase Price". It wasn't the best, but it was better then anything else on the TV. And then off to bed.
