On Monday, we decided to take a ride up to St. Louis to the livestock sale just to see what feeder calves were going for. After chores we headed that way. We got to the stockyard an hour too early, so we went to the cafe for pie and coffee or hot chocolate. The place was packed and there were a couple of people we knew. Larry and Bob Lee from Laingsburg were there, as was Laurie Lantis. Laurie is the woman I borrowed the Munchie Buck from this year. She was there with her husband, Larry, but he was outside making the rounds while she was inside visiting with a friend. At a little after 1:00 PM we made our way to the seating area for the sale. I would say that the prices were good for the buyers but not so good for the sellers. They ranged from a low of $.10 a pound for very young calves up to a high of $.90 with most of them running around $.65. Since this was a fact finding trip, we didn't spend any money, except for our snack, but I am hoping that later in the season we can come up and pick up a couple of calves to raise.
Tuesday was Meals again and then I was home to get ready for the Gathering. I baked Carrot cupcakes and four loaves of bread. Made sure the house was ready and in general took it easy.
Wednesday, Husband ran my Meals route and then went to Daughter's place to wait for a service man that they had coming. I made Hearty Potatoe Soup, cut bread, and frosted the cupcakes and did other final preparations for the girls. Everyone was here by 1:30 PM and we had a good group of eight. Judy brought along a brownie with peanut butter frosting that she made, so we had extra sweets. Had a good visit with all.
Thursday I spent just picking up from the girls and relaxing. I spent part of the time working on a plastic canvas project that I am doing for an Easter decoration. I want some new seasonal decorations, so I decide to start making some.
Thrusday also brought news that Daughter would be staying in Ann Arbor for a few days for testing. She would left us know what all was happening when she knew anything.
Friday we stayed home and I spent most of the day on the computer working on a program that keeps my goat records. Most of that day was spent doing data entry. At 4:00 PM Dark Haired Beauty was to be dropped off here by the school bus as both parents had to work later then usual. After she got here, we made a snack and she ate it all! Her Daddy picked her up and then the rest of the evening we did our usual chores and TV.
Talked with Daughter, but still nothing to note.
Saturday we had an equipment auction that we had planned to attend. We got around and made our way to Owosso. It was a wet and rainy day, note many people were at the sale. We are looking to buy hay equipment and this sale was suppose to have a haybine, a rake and mower. We checked each piece out and decided that they weren't what we were looking for, so after visiting with a couple of friends we left. One of the friends mentioned a place not far from there that held a sale every month, they might have what we were looking for, so me made a trip there. Picked up a sale flyer and then headed into Corunna to a New Holland dealer. After talking with the dealer we went for lunch and then headed home.
Sunday was the day to spring clean the greenhouse. It needed to be organized so that later this month we could begin getting plants started for the garden. What a mess! It took most of the day! My Brother called and we visited a while then back to the greenhouse to finish up. I made dinner of Ravioli with swiss chard. I made Bread Pudding for desert and after evening chores we had our desert and spent the rest of the evening working on the plastic canvas project. A no TV night! We recorded the program we wanted to watch as it is on PBS and they were doing threir fund raising. This way we can fast forward through the breaks and see our program, uninterruped.
Daughter was finally home from hospital. Feeling better, but tired.
Daylight savings time started over the weekend, what a pain! Now when I get up at 6:00 AM it is really 5:00 AM! It had started to be light when I was getting up and now...it is dark again! Wish we would just go back to "Slow" time.
Time for breakfast and chores...Onward and Upwards!
